WHAT ARE THE BLESSINGS OF HEEDING THE CALL OF JESUS CHRIST?

By Kola Ajbola

Background

John the baptizer, a copious preacher; had shunned not to declare the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27) to all and sundry, even to Herod, he reproved the tetrarch for Herodias (Philip’s wife, Philip was Herod’s brother). John also cautioned him for all the evils which he had done (Luke 3:19). Herod being reproved by John for many evils, he felt slighted and shut up John in prison.

While in prison, he heard about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples to inquire from Jesus Christ whether Jesus is “he that should come, or do we look for another?” (Matthew 11: 2-3). Jesus did many miracles in their presence and asked them to “Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me” (vss. 4-6).

After their departure, Jesus said many things unto the multitudes concerning John he baptizer (vss. 7-25). While speaking, He gave thanks to God and said “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (vss. 26 – 30, emphasis, KSA).

Who is calling?

From the foregoing, Jesus Christ is the one calling. Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (I Timothy 6:15, Revelations 19:16). He is the mediator between God and men (I Timothy 2:5). He is the son of God (Romans 1:2-3; Mark 1:1-2). He is the saviour of mankind (2 Peter 1:1; 3:2; 1 John 4:14). He has the right to call because He has been given all power in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18-20). One must obey Him because, the creator and owner of heaven and earth says “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him” (Matthew 17:5).

The Nature of this Call

This call is a gentle cal by a meek and lowly in heart (Matthew 11:29). It is a holy call (2 Timothy 1:9). The call is purpose to give rest to those who will yield the call (Matthew 11:29b). Jesus Christ’s voice is unlike that of a roaring lion (I Peter 5:8), His calling is not to devour, and it is to save whoever will come unto Him. This call is from a friend and not from an enemy. The call is from Him who loved you and has laid His life for you (John 15:13).

Jesus has been calling since, and He is still calling you today, please, answer Him.

Jesus is Calling you from Where to Where?
Jesus is calling you not to uncleanness, but unto holiness (I Thessalonians 4:7; Hebrews 12:14). This call is from a way of life usually refer to as “life enjoyment” (Colossians 3:5-9; Galatians 5:19-21) to a disciplined life. He is calling you to leave he kingdom of darkness and to come into His own kingdom (Colossians 1:13). His kingdom is church (Matthew 16:18-19). This church is called His body (Colossians 1:18, 24). The church is one – “one body” (Ephesians 4:4) and undenominational (1 Corinthians 1:10). If you will answer His call as He is calling you today, it will then means that you have “escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 2:20b) and you as a sow have been “washed to her wallowing in the mire” (2 Peter 2:22b).

The Blessings of Heeding The Call
As people use to say, “there is no free lunch anywhere, someone must have paid for it”
